Stream crossing and culvert replacements require a balance between safely conveying the travelling public, and allowing for aquatic organism passage.

Municipal officials whose culverts have washed out, or developers who need to cross a brook or stream, appreciate the requirement to provide a crossing of adequate size to convey today’s ever flashier stream flows. But too often existing, undersized or improperly installed culverts result in fish, wildlife, and other aquatic organisms getting “stuck” not being able to move up or downstream.
